The condition affects around 3-4% of the population excessive sweating can affect all ages and gender, the whole body or just certain areas such as the hands, feet and armpits (axillae).

Can hyperhidrosis be cured?

There is no cure for hyperhidrosis unfortunately, but SWEAT GUARD® Antiperspirants, Iontophoresis and other products and other treatments will help you control your excessive sweating and bring you back to your confident best.

ANTIPERSPIRANT & DEODORANT QUESTIONS

How do SWEAT GUARD® antiperspirants work?

SWEAT GUARD® antiperspirants work extremely effectively in stopping excessive sweating due to the high strength of the active ingredients and unique formulation.  When you apply SWEAT GUARD® antiperspirant your sweat ducts are blocked. We are all different. SWEAT GUARD® was formulated and tested specifically to work on those with difficult to treat excessive sweating type ducts. Unlike Aluminium Chloride based antiperspirants often designed for normal people our innovative formulation ensures your excessive sweating ducts are blocked but without the skin irritation common with other products.

What are the ingredients in your antiperspirants?

Each SWEAT GUARD® antiperspirant is uniquely formulated for the area of the body being treated using the following ingredients AZG aluminium zirconium tetrachlorhydrex gly, aqua, alcohol dent, glycerin, hydroxyethylcellulose and triethanolamine.

How quickly will I see results?

This really depends on the severity of your sweating and how you use it. Many people though see results after the first doses with SWEAT GUARD® antiperspirants. On the other hand it takes seven days of treatment twice a day to obtain the full effect.

Are there any side effects associated with SWEAT GUARD® antiperspirants?

The most common side effect with all antiperspirants and indeed any skin preparation is skin irritation or redness. SWEAT GUARD® antiperspirants have been formulated to minimise this potential side effect.  If this does occur and persists please stop using the product.

Do your antiperspirants cause dryness of the skin?

SWEAT GUARD® antiperspirants do not contain Aluminium chloride and have been formulated to make the products highly effective yet reduce the risk of side effects such as irritation, burning, stinging and dryness which can often occur with other prescription or high strength products.

Many people these days have dry skin and use cream and ointment emollients to keep their skin hydrated. SWEAT GUARD® antiperspirants can be used in conjunction with emollient products.

What are the differences between your underarm and extreme antiperspirants?

Underarm is our clinical strength Antiperspirant for excessive armpit sweating. It is a strong antiperspirant and ideal for underarm use. Underarm blocks the sweat ducts. It gets you dry and therefore also reduces the likelihood of apocrine sweat patches being broken down by bacteria. It therefore also prevents body odour from forming.

Extreme is our top of the range Deodorant Antiperspirant. It is more than an antiperspirant. It is dual action having both antiperspirant and deodorant ingredients and actions. Extreme can be used in the armpits and other body areas with excessive sweat patches. Extreme provides a very pleasant coconut fragrance. So it is ideal for areas where you are particularly concerned about excessive sweating and B.O. body odour (bromhidrosis). Alternatively like many you simply like the subtle coconut fragrance, then Extreme may be your answer.

How often do I need to apply your antiperspirants?

To maximise effectiveness apply twice a day every day. SWEAT GUARD® antiperspirants give their full effect after 7 days of using them twice per day.

Can I use SWEAT GUARD® antiperspirants in pregnancy?

Yes. SWEAT GUARD® antiperspirants are safe to use, also during pregnancy and breast feeding. SWEAT GUARD® products are registered as cosmetics and comply with all the European cosmetic regulations. This legislation requires a cosmetic product not to cause harm to human health. Each registered cosmetic product must undergo a safety assessment by a qualified safety assessor before being placed on the market. This assessment includes all the individual ingredients and intended use of the product.

Can I recycle SWEAT GUARD antiperspirant bottles?

We have recently changed our bottles to bio plastic and are currently rolling them out across our antiperspirant range. Our Extreme Antiperspirant bottles are 100% recyclable and contain 78% bio plastic. These new bottles are manufactured from wild sugar cane, a renewable plant source, which requires less energy compared to traditional plastic production methods. These new roll-on bottles also have the benefit of a larger and easier to use roller ball. What is SWEAT GUARD doing to look after the plant?

Click here to read about the journey we have taken towards becoming more fussy, wild and eco-conscious.

Are your antiperspirants tested on animals?

No. Our products are not tested on animals and are Cruelty Free.

Is SWEAT GUARD® hand antiperspirant waterproof?

SWEAT GUARD® hand antiperspirant is designed to stand up to normal hand washing routines. If you wash your hands immediately after application or go swimming immediately after the application you will likely reduce the effectiveness. Our recommendation is to pay attention to the timings of application in your daily schedule to maximise the chance of absorption.

SWEAT GUARD® UNDERARM SWEAT PADS - TRIPLE ABSORB  QUESTIONS

Why are SWEAT GUARD® sweat pads more effective?

We developed and invented our original underarm Sweat Pads for people who sweat excessively. The challenge was to develop a pad that was many times more absorbent than those designed for normal people. At the same time develop a pad that was discrete in size. But also one which can be put in place easily, remained in place and is removed easily. SWEAT GUARD® sweat pads can achieve all these aims for you.  Unlike most other sweat pads that are designed for normal people. When tested SWEAT GUARD® underarm sweat pads absorbed fully 3 times the volume of sweat of standard pads. Surprisingly! That’s why we say they are Triple Absorbent.

Are the materials safe?

Millions of SWEAT GUARD® sweat pads have been used over the years safely and effectively.  Not a single adverse safety event has been reported during this time. SWEAT GUARD® sweat pad components are selected for their superior ability to absorb and retain sweat fluids, to avoid leakage. To prevent damage to clothing, provide comfort and discreteness in use and meet the highest environmental and product safety standards.

Will SWEAT GUARD® sweat pads stop odour as well as sweat?

Our underarm sweat pads are triple absorbency and designed for extreme sweating conditions. In other words, the sweat pad fabric absorbs the sweat from the skin and locks it away in the pad. Locking it away from the bacteria on the skin that act on the sweat to produce odour. Regular use of SWEAT GUARD® sweat pads can therefore help in the reduction of odour as well as well as protecting your clothing and preventing embarrassing sweat patches.

Do you sell different sizes of sweat pads?

The size and shape of our underarm pads was designed in response to the needs of people with excessive sweating under the arms. The pad design also followed extensive testing. 99% of people now use the pads as presented and packed. Simply peel, place and position and you are ready to face the outside world. For more specialist pad requirements covering other larger areas multiple pads can be used. The pads are also versatile enough to be able to be cut to smaller sizes in the unlikely event that is necessary.

A recent updateSWEAT GUARD®  has developed and patented brand new Butterfly Breast Sweat Pads. Using our famous tried and tested triple absorb technology they absorb the source of the sweat in the cleavage.  Sweat often tracks down this channel and results in those sweat patches under the breasts you want to avoid - sometimes called "underboob sweat".

Can you wash SWEAT GUARD® sweat pads?

SWEAT GUARD® sweat pads are disposable after use. For hygiene reasons most people discard them at the end of the day. If they did accidentally find themselves in the washing machine the machine will be Ok but the pads performance will be compromised.

Which ingredients are in SWEAT GUARD® deodorant soap bar?

Our soap is a natural, handmade, cold process soap with lemongrass, lavender, tea-tree and peppermint essential oils.

For those technically minded amongst you the complete list is as follows:-

Sodium olivate, Sodium cocoate, aqua, butyrospernum parkii butter, lavandual angustifolia, essential oil (contains linalool, geraniol, limonene), cymbopogon, schoenanthus, essential oil (contains citral, geraniol). mentha piperita essential oil (contains limonene), melaleuca alternifolia essential oil (contain limonene).

Why are your silver socks best for excessive sweating?

Healthy feet are important in our day to day lives. Feet have a high density of sweat glands. They constantly sweat. Many feet are prone to excessive sweating. This is a very common problem and not just confined to people with plantar hyperhidrosis. Silver socks are recommended for hyperhidrosis self care by leading dermatology groups such as the British Association of Dermatologists. SWEAT GUARD® 5% silver socks have been designed by experts specifically to keep your feet healthy. They prevent sweaty and bad smelling feet. They do this by transferring sweat away, killing bacteria including odour causing bacteria and maintaining an optimum temperature.

How do your silver socks prevent odour ?

SWEAT GUARD® socks have 5% silver fibre. The silver fibre is antibacterial and antimicrobial. So the silver kills the odour causing bacteria and prevents smelly feet. Of course silver also kills bacteria such as candida, staph aureus and ecoli that are also responsible for itching dermatitis and skin infection.  So these socks keep your feet healthy in many ways.

IONTOPHORESIS QUESTIONS

What is iontophoresis?

Iontophoresis (pronounced eye-on-toe-for-ree-sis) is a safe and effective, drug-free treatment used to reduce excessive sweating of affected areas of your skin such as hands, feet or armpits. Iontophoresis has been successfully used for treating all types of hyperhidrosis since the 1930s.

What does the iontophoresis treatment process involve?

The clinically proven iontophoresis technique involves passing a weak electrical current through the affected areas of skin. This is done using a special iontophoresis machine. This machine enables you to place your hands or feet in trays containing tap water, through which the current is passed. For armpits, special water-absorbing underarm pads are used. Normally no medications are used with the treatment and ordinary tap water is used.

How does iontophoresis work?

It is known the current flow passes through the sweat channels. This selectively reduces the sweat glands. The direct mechanism of action is not yet fully known. However most importantly it is known it works well.

Medical literature reports various findings and theories regarding how it may work. That coagulation of proteins in the channels or their thermal deactivation is responsible. That the electrical current temporarily blocks the nerve impulses from the central nervous system that tells sweat glands to secrete sweat. That it lowers the pH of the sweat gland making it more acidic which reduces the amount of sweat secreted. That the current and mineral particles in the water thicken the outer layer of skin and restricts the flow of sweat.

What are SWEAT GUARD® iontophoresis machines?

SWEAT GUARD® iontophoresis machines offer safe, effective, convenient, affordable tap-water iontophoresis treatment. Our machines are used professionally in the clinic and can be used in the home as well. They are modern digital portable regulated medical devices powered through modern rechargeable Li-ion batteries. just like your phone.

When should I consider using iontophoresis?

Many people with excessive sweating will try antiperspirants first. It is important though to try high-strength anti-perspirant treatments. Usually mass market, high street antiperspirants are not very effective for those with excessive sweating. SWEAT GUARD®’s clinical strength, maximum effect range of anti-perspirant products are formulated specifically for excessive sweating and are exclusively available from SWEAT GUARD®

If your antiperspirant or current treatment is not providing you with the control of sweating you need you can try Iontophoresis. SWEAT GUARD® Iontophoresis provides modern digital affordable iontophoresis machines and expert support to enable you to try this proven treatment in the comfort of your own home and without any risk.

Can anyone receive iontophoresis treatment?

Yes, however, you should not use iontophoresis treatment if you have a heart pacemaker, similar electronic device or metal implants in your body that might interfere with the current flow. Jewellery should be removed from the affected areas being treated. Unlike the USA you do not need a prescription to use iontophoresis machines in the UK and Europe and many other countries around the world.

Is the treatment safe and what are the possible side effects?

Yes, experience over many years has shown the iontophoresis treatment in the clinic and at home to be safe without serious side effects. SWEAT GUARD® provides UK based expert support and this increases the likelihood of success and reduces the risk of any side effects and treatment delays.

The following temporary side effects have been reported in the literature.

Irritation, skin reddening, burning sensation, small blisters and itching. Wait until symptoms disappear completely before starting your next treatment.

Tingling and stinging sensations. Slight pain could be felt at the beginning of the treatment or after the polarity changes. If you feel any of the above effects, reduce current intensity during your next treatment.

Increased sweating: After the first few treatments, rarely you may experience an increase in sweating. This will reduce after a few treatments.

Small electric shocks during treatment: In very rare cases, a harmless electric shock may occur if treatment is interrupted suddenly. To avoid this risk, remove your hands, feet or underarm electrodes slowly.

Skin dryness: Skin may become dry and scaling may occur. A moisturising or emollient cream can be used to treat and prevent skin dryness.

Who shouldn’t use iontophoresis?

If any of the following apply, you must NOT use Iontophoresis: - You have metal implants or replacements, a cardiac pacemaker or cardioverter-defibrillator, an electrical stimulator, an endoprosthesis, an Intrauterine contraceptive device (IUD/IUCD).

You are pregnant, breast-feeding, have polyneuropathy, have high skin sensitivity,  an allergy to stainless steel, chrome, nickel or any metal.

You have wounds / abrasions / discomfort / soreness / irritation / damage / discolouration / itchiness in the area to be treated.

You are under 12 years of age in which case iontophoresis treatment should be under the supervision of a doctor.

How effective is iontophoresis treatment?

Iontophoresis treatment with quality medical devices and expert support can stop your excessive sweating quickly and with maintenance treatments stop excessive sweating for the rest of your life. Studies have shown the treatments improve quality of life significantly. 80-90% of patients see results after only 2 weeks. In other words it can bring you back to normal in a short period of time, without the use of medicines, surgery or any serious side effects.

What does the treatment schedule involve?

Therapy is divided into two phases. Start up or Stage 1 phase is the initial period of treatment during which sweating is significantly reduced. The Maintenance or Stage 2 phase is a regular maintenance regime which stops the excessive sweating coming back.

Treatment schedules are clearly explained in the SWEAT GUARD® instructions for use manual and vary by age. Duration of treatment depends on the individuals age and area of body being treated and can vary from 14 minutes to 30 minutes. This may be every day or every other day in the maintenance phase. The frequency of treatment can typically reduce to monthly in the maintenance phase.
